Avi started his career with BRAC’s communications department where he managed large scale strategic communications projects related to public health, women empowerment, youth and technology for development among others. He was part of the team that developed BRAC’s first global communications strategy and led strategic communication campaigns, internal communications and a portfolio of 16 BRAC development programmes’ communication support with a combined reach of 125 million people in Bangladesh. Avi championed key ICT4D initiatives at BRAC including the first hackathon organised by a development organisation in Bangladesh and BRAC Manthan Digital Innovation Award – an initiative to recognise grassroots-level innovators.

Avi led the Social Innovation Lab in the organisation, which works as a knowledge and experimentation hub at BRAC. During his tenure at the lab, he managing a portfolio of projects including mobile financial services, digital tools for development, youth development and institutionalising human-centred design principles. One of his focus during this time was also on scaling successful social innovation and identifying segments in the BoP market with high growth potential for BRAC’s emerging social enterprises.

Avi, in his current capacity, is managing the strategy and growth of a portfolio of social development programmes in BRAC which covers programme in financial inclusion, climate change, women’s empowerment, education, health and youth among others from the Executive Director’s office.

Avi has been recognised for his work by the Acumen Fund as a Fellow and as a mentor for young innovators as part of UN Global Compact’s Young SDG Innovators Programme. He is an alumnus of Unleash — an innovation lab to design breakthrough solutions to meet the SDGs. Avi has also been recognised as a Transformational Leader at BRAC — a cohort of senior leaders who are responsible for driving strategy in the organisation.
